Highway 12 in southern Utah is a breathtaking journey past some of southern Utah’s most picturesque features, including Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, and Capitol Reef National Park.
Escalante Petrified Forest State Park
Escalante Petrified Forest State Park has a fantastic hiking trail that shows off some of the region’s best petrified wood in a treasure chest of a hiking trail. The trail climbs up a mesa where petrified wood is literally scattered all over the ground in both pebble-sized rocks and boulders a few feet large. The park makes for an excellent stop to get away from the crowds seeking out grander adventures.
