The Wedding Tree

The Teton Mountains framed beautifully within the popular Wedding Tree. Bridger-Teton National Forest, Wyoming

The Wedding Tree is a short and sweet 0.1 mile hike in the lower Gros Ventre Mountains with a stunning view of the Teton Mountains.

The Wedding Tree Trail Description

From the parking area, head up the well-worn trail through sagebrush and occasional elder evergreens. As you weave through the semi-rocky terrain, the Teton Mountains come into view, framed magnificently by one gorgeously sculpted tree. A creation of nature, this large, old spruce tree beautiful frames the Tetons with a serene spot to sit and admire the view. When ready, head out the same way you came in.

NOTE: There’s been substantial trampling and resource loss in recent years, so the site is currently a day-use only area. Please respect that and try to stay only on established trails to give the vegetation a chance to recover.

Getting There

From downtown Jackson, travel north on Highway 89 for 7 miles until you reach the roundabout. Take the first right turn, bringing you toward the Gros Ventre Campground and the town of Kelly. Continue along that road for 8 miles, where you’ll pass both sites. After passing through Kelly, the road will bend north. At 15 miles from Jackson, and approximately 1.25 miles beyond Kelly, look for Gros Ventre Road to branch off to the right (also the first paved right turn after Kelly). Continue along that road for 3.5 miles, crossing the boundary from Grand Teton National Park to the Bridger-Teton National Forest. Once over the boundary, you’ll pass the Gros Ventre River Ranch and head up a large hill. At the top of the hill, look for the day-use parking area on your right, itself with a beautiful view of the Gros Ventre River far below.
