The Natural Bridge hike in Yellowstone National Park is an easy 2.5 mile round trip hike that takes visitors to a gorgeous example of a natural bridge carved into the rock. The hike to the bridge is very easy, and only gets steeper if you’re interested in hiking up to the top. An optional path from the base ascends up where you can climb on top of the bridge and overlook the landscape. An easy route down brings you back to the main trail.

Natural Bridge Trail Description

From the trailhead, begin heading up the wide trail. You’ll meander through the forest for 1.1 miles, passing through a junction to access Bridge Bay at 0.5 miles in. At 0.9 miles in, the trail will fork where a sign directs you to stay right. Just beyond, another sign will point you up a small stream where the natural bridge rises dramatically above the forest. There are plenty of places to enjoy the view and the landmark before heading back out, if you’re not inclined to access the top.

If you’re interested in reaching the top of the bridge, continue up the side trail and look for a fork to the right just a short distance up. The trail will wind around to the top of the bridge. Head behind the bridge where a rock staircase will guide you to the other side, where access to the top of the bridge is much easier. When ready, continue down the trail where you’ll descend back to either fork below.
