Observation Point Trail Description

From the Old Faithful area, head around the backside, toward the opposite side of the Old Faithful Inn. At a junction, head down the trail into the forest where you’ll quickly cross the Firehole River. The Observation Point Trail forks off to the right as you’re making your way back up.

Once on the trail, begin climbing up the hill along the easy to follow trail. You’ll climb steadily through the picturesque forest. As you near the top of the trail, you’ll reach a junction to head off to Solitary Geyser and the rest of the Upper Geyser Basin. Head right to continue ascending the trail, wrapping around a switchback to reach the point.

From the top of the viewpoint, you’ve got outstanding views of the surrounding scene, getting a great bird’s-eye view of Old Faithful and the forest rising beyond. Enjoy an eruption, and when ready, head back down the same way you came up.
