The Balanced Rock Trail is an easy 0.3 mile hike in Arches National Park that circumnavigates the prominent titular sandstone feature.
Balanced Rock Trail Description
The trail begins from the parking area and is paved along the right side of the spire as it easily makes a small ascent to the backside of the rock. A widened platform sets up a stunning panoramic view of the Windows area with the La Sal Mountains rising high above in the distance.
The trail from here transitions to a more traditional dirt and sandstone, climbing up a small and easy set of steps to the back of Balanced Rock. It then descends along the north side, gently meandering through the high desert features while offering different vantage points of the iconic rock. As it wraps around, it soon joins back up with the start of the trail.
Getting There
From the Arches National Park entrance station, head up along the main road for 8.8 miles and look for the Balanced Rock parking area on your right.
Hello! Excuse my question: in the Balanced Rock trail area are there other interesting rocks to see?
I will appreciate your information!
No problem at all! There are some other rocks along the trail, but Balanced Rock is definitely the highlight and the most prominent feature by far. However, from Balanced Rock, you’re just a short drive away from the Windows area, where there’s also more hiking and other arches. Hope that helps!
