The North Ridge-Cirque Trail Loop is a strenuous 2.25 mile hike that begins at the top of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Tram, and uses two different hiking trails to create a loop. Each trail offers unique and jaw-dropping views of the surrounding terrain, as well as the expansive valley of Jackson Hole below. Expect this hike to be harder than what you’re used to due to the elevation of the trail beginning at 10,400 feet above sea level.

North Ridge-Cirque Trail Loop Description
From the top of the tram, look for the North Ridge Trailhead immediately beyond the tram station and off to the right. You’ll see it before the Skywalk. The trail quickly begins descending north of the tram as immense panoramic views of Granite Canyon sprawl out below the Grand Teton beyond. The valley of Jackson Hole also reaches out into the distance below the Teton Mountains far below.
The steep trail descends through alpine tundra, soon dropping into a scattered evergreen grove. Along the way you’re treated to gorgeous and stunning views of Granite Canyon as you descend further along its high-alpine rim. The terrain will soon get rockier as steep switchbacks guide you down. Granite Canyon will momentarily disappear behind a ridge, only to pop back out again as you navigate down a narrow rocky divide.

Below the divide, more switchbacks await to bring you down into cozy alpine meadow filled with wildflowers. You’ll make a quick and easy scramble down a boulder ridge, continuing through the meadow. This will be followed by an evergreen grove, where you then connect with the Cirque Trail. Head right to begin back up toward the Tram.
The Cirque Trail will begin making steep switchbacks up through the evergreen grove. As you continue to gain elevation, you’ll make a series of service road crossings. Rising above the grove, you’re treated to a stunning view in a meadow as the Grand Teton rises up above the distant peaks. Making one more quick pass through the grove, you’ll then climb into a meadow on a ridge.
Switchbacks guide you up the rocky mountainside, as the steep ascent encourages frequent breaks to admire the views while catching your breath. There are even a couple of spots where a bit of safe scrambling is required to continue up the trail. The trail through here is steep and exposed as the relentless climb continues. After some climbing, the trail maintains a steady ascent, though not quite as steep as on the cliff face.

Alpine terrain decorates the sides of the trail as you begin making the final ascent. Delicate and fragile vegetation line the trail as you also pass the famous Corbet’s Couloir. You may even notice a few more people in this area as you begin to near the tram. The steady climb bring you past Corbet’s Cabin and up to the Top of the World next to the Jackson Hole Tram.
