The hike to Tower Falls is such a short and sweet hike that there’s really no reason not to do it if you happen to be in the area. Complete with a gift shop serving food, ice cream, and souvenirs, the easy trail makes for a great place to stop and enjoy, especially on longer journeys.
Tower Falls Trail Description
From the shop and trailhead, begin down the easy paved trail. Along the way you’re treated to wonderful views of the lower Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River as the rolling hills drop down toward the river. After a pleasant 0.1 mile walk, the trail terminates in an overlook with a gorgeous view of the ribbon-like Tower Falls pouring over a large cliff. The falls drop 200 feet to the canyon floor below, however much of the view is obscured by the surrounding forest.
If you’re up for a little more hiking, consider heading down to the Yellowstone River overlook where the trail turns to a more traditional dirt trail. Be prepared though: the trail drops over 300 vertical feet in about 0.3 miles.
