Lower Face Loop Trail Description

Begin up the Wildflower Trail by heading up the wide dirt service road/trail found between the Sweetwater and Bridger Gondolas. Follow the trail as it veers off to the side of the service road, ascending through the mature woods. At a large service road junction, head left across the road and pick up the Tramline Trail on the opposite side. The quick switchbacks will guide you up through the forest where you’ll ultimately pop out onto another service road. You’ll share the road for a short distance, pass through a junction with the Seven Bridges Trail, then reach the junction with the Lower Face Loop after.

The Lower Face Loop can be hiked clockwise or counterclockwise. This writeup reflects going clockwise though either is an enjoyable route.

Heading left at the junction, you’ll drop down into a large meadow, winding around a forest grove of noticeably large evergreens. The mighty trees invite a moment to reflect on their age as you wander down below them. You’ll then cross a service road, then veer right, wandering into a thicker forest.

You’ll cross a quick ski run, then meander through a mixed forest. Not long after, you’ll begin making long easy switchbacks through the woods. Higher up, you’ll connect with a service road that doubles as the trail for a brief distance, heading left to pick up the single-track again just ahead.

Heading off of the dirt road, the trail continues to ascend more before crossing a ski run, all the while providing great views of Jackson Hole below. Wiggling through wonderful white aspens, you’ll wander through more ski runs and groves, shortly after connecting with the Hoback Trail.

Continue heading downward along the Hoback Trail, where you’ll quickly reach the initial junction with the Lower Face Loop. Just ahead, the junction with the Tramline Trail awaits, where you can head back down at your convenience.
