Huckleberry Hot Springs Trail Description
From the parking area, head through the partially burned forest where you’ll quickly enter into a healthier elderly forest. The easy and wide trail makes for enjoyable hiking until you get to the one challenge of the trail.
As you approach Polecat Creek, you’ll find the only way through is to ford the creek. The creek can be as high as mid-thigh on many people, but aside from a few slippery rocks, footing is easily grasped overall.
On the other side of the creek, you’ll pass through a large meadow before heading back into the woods. Through here the trail will become a more traditional single-track.
You’ll once again open up into a large meadow where you’ll bend around some trees and head straight down to the creek. Huckleberry Hot Springs pour from across the creek, as well as off to the left. A few faint trails can be found to see other sources of the springs, but remember to tread lightly to preserve the native vegetation trying to grow there.
When ready, head back out the same way you came in. On your way out, consider checking out Polecat Hot Springs as well by following a faint trail right before fording the creek.
Getting There
From the Flagg Ranch Visitor Center, head west along Grassy Lake Road for 1 mile. Look for the trailhead on the right immediately after crossing Polecat Creek.
