Driftwood Beach

A rocky exposure rising above the sand along the beach. Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, South Carolina

The Botany Bay hike to Driftwood Beach is an easy 0.5 mile hike from the trailhead to the ocean beach. While the hike technically ends at the beach, most people are content to continue walking along the shores to explore the different driftwood formations, along with the beachfront.

Botany Bay Trail Description

From the trailhead, pass through wetlands along the well-maintained trail, initially crossing a small stream. The trail passes through a small forest grove before emerging in the wetlands again. You’ll pass through a lengthier forest grove just beyond and emerge on Driftwood Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. As mentioned, the trail ends here, but explore the shores to your heart’s content and return the same way you came in.

Getting There

From the town of Osborn, head south on Highway 174 for 15.2 miles. Turn left onto Botany Bay Road and follow that for 3.2 miles. The trailhead will be next to a parking area along a 90 degree bend in the road.
