Cascade Lake Trail Description

From the trailhead, descend gently through the woods as you easily wander through the old forest. You’ll quickly reach a junction at 0.25 miles in that connects the nearby picnic area with the trail as well. Continue left to head to Cascade Lake.

You’ll then reach a meadow crowned with nearby mountains ahead. As you cross a small creek, the forest thickens before opening up into a much larger meadow. The trail hugs the treeline as you cross a series of small creeks, all feeding into the vast open expanse. As you wander back into the woods, you’ll parallel a small creek, soon after reaching a junction at 1.25 miles in. Left brings you to the Cascade Creek Trailhead, while right continues to Cascade Lake.

Beginning a brief ascent, you’ll maintain a steady course through the forest with a pair of seasonal creek crossings. Heading through the mature woods some more, you’ll notice larger meadows beginning to overtake the trees. Before long, the trail opens up into a massive and wide meadow.

The Cascade Lake Trail meanders easily through the immense field as you cross a small creek, followed by a backcountry campsite. After another creek crossing, Cascade Lake comes into view in the distance. Note that early in the season, the trail can still be quite saturated, so if you’re hiking prior to July, waterproof shoes are recommended.

Upon reaching the lake, you’ll reach a junction with the Observation Peak Trail. To continue exploring the lake, head left. Spur trails will lead to the lake’s shores. There’s no official end to the trail, since the trail continues onward to Grebe Lake, however you’ll notice a nice spot to relax above Cascade Lake with a makeshift bench made from a (naturally) downed tree. When ready, head back out the same way you came in.
